FreeBalance Participation in the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) Financial Management Information Systems Workshop

Ottawa, Canada (October 7, 2009) - FreeBalance participated in the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) FMIS Workshop in Belize from September 15 through 17. Public Financial Management experts shared valuable practices in good governance and information technology. Presentations from the conference are available on the CARTAC web site.

FreeBalance representatives were active during workshops through twitter and posting pictures on the ICGFM photo site and the FreeBalance Customer Exchange. Many Caribbean governments face similar Public Financial Management challenges. These challenges were discussed at the CARTAC FMI conference held in Belize. FreeBalance provided an overview of these challenges in the FreeBalance Sustainability Blog.

Representatives from Caribbean governments participating in the CARTAC FMI Conference in Belize questioned software company license schemes. Many government representatives felt that vendor licensing methods and costs are too high, particularly during a time when revenue has dropped because of the financial crisis. Public Financial Management workshops and conferences provide valuable insight for FreeBalance resulting in improved understanding of the government domain. New product features to address changing government needs are often generated from these events.
