The Kosovo Financial Management Information System (KFMIS) was implemented in 2000 with FreeBalance Accountability Suite software. The KFMIS is a multi-lingual system (English, Albanian, and Serbian) that supports the budget process and the timely processing of government payroll for over 70,000 civil servants. The KFMIS records, manages and reports on all budget, commitment, expenditure and treasury management functions. The initial project was subsequently expanded from the central government level to all 30 municipalities. All budget organizations and major revenue agencies in Kosovo are now connected to the KFMIS. The Ministry of Finance and Economy in Kosovo is a member of the FreeBalance International Steering Committee.
